OSPwest

Two weekends ago I participated in an awesome photography workshop called OSPwest. OSP is opensourcephoto.net which is an awesome professional photography forum that I am part of, and every year each region puts together a workshop of sorts where we all get together and talk shop all weekend. This year OSPwest was scheduled in Seattle, which was awesome since that meant my travel was practically ziltch!  The greatest thing about OSPwest is that it is put on by members for members and the amount of time that people invested to make it rock was amazing.

The weekend included talks by the likes of Gene Higa , Kiss Wedding Books and Jim Garner. All companies that do amazing things for the wedding industry. We also put on shoots where 2o photographers go out and photograph the same models and give tips on style and technique. Many people looked at us weird on the streets because we looked like this:

in the middle of downtown Seattle! One woman actually asked if this bride had hired that many photographers ! So funny.

I did three shoots. The bridal shoot with the model Britany, then an engagement shoot with Jessica and Ben, and a night shoot with Stacy.  All the models were great sports! Thanks a bunch for letting us shoot you all day!!

Here are some of my faves

Beautiful+Radiant: Michelle

This past weekend Michelle and I went out and about through the allyways of Eastlake to take pictures. I find my eye always drawn to the beauty of urban decay. I know, it sounds weird, but I love the look of a slightly forgotten place and then to put in a beautiful person as the subject to that background… I love the contrast! Michelle was down with this idea for her headshots. I gotta give this girl credit, because she had been in a car accident the night before that totalled her car, but she didn’t want to reschedule her shoot. She was determined to do something that would make her remember the weekend and smile instead of cringe in remembering about her car. So, sore and everything, she brought her heels and her smile and we ran around Eastlake and then headed down to the Columbia City Library to finish our session.

We stopped for lunch (and had some amazing calzones!), but¬† I don’t remember what the name of the restaurant was… and she just started playing with her necklace. She indulged me while I was like OOOOHHHHHH hold that!!¬†re_090404_0733re_090404_0756re_090404_0771re_090404_0802re_090404_0822Thanks Michelle, you were such a doll to photograph!

PDN Top Knots 2009

re_080831_2314-21

PDN contacted me in late January to let me know that one of my images (above ) has been selected as a finalist in the Top Knots wedding photo contest. I didn’t blog about it until now as I didn’t want to jynx my chances of being chosen as the winner (I can be a bit superstitious at times), but I’ve heard from many people today that the April issue of PDN is out and the contest is in it.¬† Check it out when it hits the newstands!

This image is of Matt and Molly Miller taking a minute to themselves on a powerboat on Lake Washington after their ceremony at the Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland. Check out more images from Matt and Molly’s wedding here

Thank you to PDN and Theknot.com for putting on this contest! I am honoured to be a finalist!

Beautiful Beautiful Sarah

This weekend when Seattle decided to give us one beautiful day of spring,¬† Sarah and I (and my awesome friend Kailen playing the assistant role) rushed out of doors to participate in the beautiful sunshine! Sarah had been wanting some updated photos of herself as 2009 has brought some major changes in her life and her old photos didn’t quite work for her anymore. We found our way to Gasworks Park which is one of my favorite spots to photograph people in Seattle.¬† You could tell that we weren’t the only ones excited for a day of sunshine and warmth (well, a Seattlites version of warmth at least… I think it was in the 50s) as Gasworks was crawling with people. I always feel bad when I have to ask people to move out of the way of the photo I am taking, but I love how Seattlites are always more than willing to move! Luckily, even with the amount of people were around, I only had to ask one couple to move for a short bit (and thank you ! Whoever you were!!!)

Look how beautiful this girl is! I love the contrast between her pale skin and red shirt!

re_090329_0280re_090329_0291re_090329_0302re_090329_0332This shot Kailen and Sarah were laughing at me , cuz I was hanging over the banaster trying for the “perfect” angle. Sometimes I put myself in the most precarious positions trying to get a cool shot. There were quite a few near misses with me laying on duck poop too! Yikes!!

re_090329_0350I love this shot of Sarah. A completely unguarded moment.

re_090329_0392re_090329_0433

This is the shot I had to ask the couple to move from… They were on the bench to the left and I just couldn’t stand half of someones head in the corner of the shot!

re_090329_0443re_090329_0471re_090329_0486I love this sculpture.

re_090329_0506So, we left Gasworks with the idea of shooting in another location over by Columbia City, but silly me, I forgot that you can’t eaisly access Beacon Hill from 99, so I went past the West Seattle Bridge to turn around in Georgetown area. We got a bit turned around and went down some random street and found this awesome multicolored wall on a side street. I fell in love with the wall and scrapped the Columbia City idea for taking pictures here.

I’ve bookmarked it in my iPhone too so now I know exactly how to get back here in the future! I love industrial looking backgrounds.

Henry turns 1!

There was style. There were presents. There were kids (galore!!). And there was an awesome little 1 year old with a double ear infection but still going strong for the party!

re_090322_0128

Henry’s 1st birthday!

Henry’s mom Aly is a awesome photographer at La Luz Photography and she and her hubby Ben knew how important her little man’s first party was gonna be, so they hired me to make sure none of the important moments got missed. It was a stylish party with really cute party favors. I believe Aly made them herself.

re_090322_9912

re_090322_9913

And a super tasty cake… I have to ask Aly where she got it made¬† and let you all know!

re_090322_9924

Look at this little guy. No ear infection was going to stop him:-)

re_090322_9952

Those look like some super proud parents!

re_090322_9996

I love this photo! While mom and dad think that the candle is getting blown out, Henry had another idea… check out his right hand going for what he really wants!

re_090322_0005

And mom realizes a moment too late.

Henry: 1 point Cake: 0 points

re_090322_0006

Shoes are overrated when you got cake man!

re_090322_0019

re_090322_0028

I gotta say points to Aly for this super cute idea. She took a picture of Henry on each of his month “birthdays” and had the progression on the wall. I have to take some pointers from her when I have kids!

re_090322_0131

You can tell mom must be a talented photographer, because Henry received three cameras for his birthday. Gotta get the protege started young!

re_090322_0074This party wasn’t lacking in cute kids that is for sure. Look at this group of awesome moms; what a play group!

re_090322_0135

I mean look at how adorable  these kids are:
