it’s the little things…

I'm a bit goofy and always ready to have a good time - I love making clients laugh...it just so happens it's usually at me and some random thing I am doing to get "the shot" - If it's nice outside, I guarantee I will be found sitting in a patch of sunlight soaking in the rays - I tend to miss speak right when I am trying to be sassy, ... so I just end up sounding silly - I love all the noises a new baby makes be it cute or gross - My socks never match and I am proud of it - I avoid cleaning the bathroom like it's the plague. It comes from growing up with two brothers and always being on bathroom duty - I found out the hard way that garlic does NOT compliment everything... and now my husband doesn't let me in the kitchen unsupervised - I still get giddy and jittery before every wedding I photograph - I once thought the biggest gift of being self employed was making my own hours, now I know it's the luxury it gives me to raise my son (born April 2011) without the need of daycare - I love riding my bike, but don't have the constitution to make myself work out regularly - I believe that following your dream is not the easiest path but is definitely the most rewarding one. My dreams since I was 18 was to find the man of my dreams (check), raise a family (check) and create images for a living (check) - oh... and if you want to make me laugh, tell me a poop joke. Works EVERY time.

Engaged | Tucson, AZ | Caleb + Karine

Caleb and Karine’s engagement shoot was extra special for me to photograph for a couple reasons… One, because Caleb is my brother and the other is that I soon get to call Karine my sister. Karine and I were friends and that is how she ended up meeting Caleb when she came to help me move a couple years back. They got to know each other a bit better at Pete’s birthday party, and they have pretty much been inseparable since. They are a unique couple. Both extremely intelligent and needing a partner who could match wits with them, but also be able to be completely dorky dorks with each other and talk about complete nonsense. It is like a match made in heaven

It’s been such a pleasure living with these two while their relationship has grown. I got to be in on it when I knew Caleb was about to propose, but I had to keep the secret for almost two months. Do you know how hard it is to keep a secret like that from one of your best friends? Not only to keep the secret but still talk to Karine about the idea of marriage without giving it up that I knew a proposal was about to happen?!? I couldn’t be happier for them!These two are not only my family but some of my closest friends and I can’t wait for their wedding next year. Imagine that! A wedding I am going to be in instead of photographing. Weird!

We were all down in Tucson last month for a old friends wedding (which I photographed and will have photos up soon!). When we were talking about their engagement photos, and what / where to do them, we naturally gravitated to doing them in Tucson while were there. Caleb and Josh and I grew up there, and spent much of our formative years running and playing on the property where we shot it. It is a place that is dear to our hearts and I was so happy to be able to capture them there ( not to mention the BEAUTIFUL light that we have in Tucson in the fall!)

Congrats you two! I heart you both in all your rediculousness

Engaged | Seattle, WA | Becca + Luc

I’ve known Becca for a long time now. Depending on the company we switch off with the name “the other Becca.” I’ve seen her go through different boyfriends and different stages, and I couldn’t be more excited for her that she has found a common soul in Luc. They started out as friends running into each other when in art school at the Art Institute of Seattle, and after many months of beers, football and homework, their friendship blossomed to something way more.

They are two who compliment each other in the best ways and who help bring out each others strengths. That is such an important thing to have in a solid relationship… according to how my brain works at least!!!

We wanted to bring their personalities into their session, and Sundays in the fall are all about cooking in the kitchen and then sitting back and watching football. What better way to show just who they are. After a pancake fatality ( Luc suprised Becca while she was flipping a pancake over) and butter knife wars, they cuddled up on the couch and it was like any other Sunday *perfect*.

I loved their wild pjs….

After pancakes, we found our way to the Fremont neighborhood for a bit more dressy pictures. It was so much fun just running around town with these two… and having some tasty lunch at their stomping ground of the Nickerson Street Saloon afterwards.

Can’t wait to see you walk down that aisle next April!!

Engaged | Greenlake | Sarah + Torben

A beautiful fall Sunday, a couple cups of coffee and a walk around Greenlake. It is a normal weekday day in the life of Sarah and Torben, so it was the perfect idea for their engagement photos. These two are so full of life and are so fun. I’m stoked for their summer 2012 intimate backyard wedding. I can already tell it will fit their personalities perfectly!

Engagement | University of Washington | MacKenzie and Andrew

MacKenzie and Andrew met at the UW while they were students, so it was fun to find our way back there for their engagement session. It was blustery fall day but it didn’t sway us from going out and having a great time rain or shine.

It’s fun to watch these two light up when they are together. Two people who know complete comfort in each others arms. This has to be one of the best parts of my job, the ability to spend time with people who are so content with eachother and are excited about the what the future brings, be it rain or shine.

Thanks for roaming the campus with me MacKenzie and Andrew! I can’t wait for your wedding next summer!

Engaged | Bellevue, WA | Hilary and Bret

Internet dating.

People find themselves embarrassed to say they have done it, that they have logged on and answered all those questions to find their “match”, they have sifted through the good, the bad, the ugly, and the utmost hilarious just to see if maybe just maybe that someone who gets them is out there answering those same silly questions and also wondering why people put the pictures that they do on their profiles.

More and more every year, when I find myself sitting down to meet with a couple, she has that shiny new ring on her finger, and they both have a slightly overwhelmed feel about them when talking about all the details they are imagining to put together their big day, we start talking about how they met, and voila! here enters eHarmony.com or Match.com or {enter dating website of your choice here}. And every time, they mention how they were embaressed to say that was how they met, and yet here they are happy as can be, with the person that gets them the most, planning the day that is the launching point of their lives together.

What can we say? Internet dating works people!

Hilary and Bret are one of those couples. They were both looking for that person who understands them, and found their ways to eHarmony.

It’s okay how much she loves Target, because he loves it that much as well; so much that they started “Sunday Target dates” after moving in together. It’s okay that he has a thing about monkeys… as she is already plotting what their first babies nursery will look like, and you can bet it involves monkeys. It’s the little things that bring people together and it’s the little things that these two love about each other.

We spent some time last week at their favorite park running around having fun in one of the last sunny days of summer. This park is special to them as they have been taking their dog Lilly on walks there since she was a puppy, and this is where Bret decided on a Sunday morning (before their date to Target), with Lilly by his side for support to ask Hilary to be his wife. It couldn’t be more them and it was a perfect place to be for their engagement session as well.

Congrats Hilary and Bret! I can’t wait for your wedding in April!

Fun story. Lilly (the puppy) LOVES Hilary’s mom. Or a Lilly knows her as grandma. Well, grandma was with us at the park taking care of Lilly as they wanted her in some of the pictures, but not in the entire session. I was trying to get Lilly’s attention in the series below, and I made the mistake of saying “Lilly, Grandma!” excitedly. Well, Lilly loves loves loves loves loves grandma. So much that she did her best to get to her asap. She was determined!!! Needless to say, I didn’t use grandma as an attention getting phrase again
