Sun, smiles, laughter and grace.
That is how I would explain Joy and Travis’ wedding at Jardin Del Sol in Snohomish on July 3rd.
I’ve known Joy since I was a small child. Our families have a long history together, and we used to tramp through the woods in Arlington where she lived when I would visit for the summer. We were always together when I visited almost twenty years ago, but as life moves on, Joy and I don’t see each other much anymore.
So, when she emailed me to tell me she was engaged, and she wanted me to photograph her wedding I was super excited. Excited to meet Travis, who makes Joy so happy, excited to be a part of an old friend’s day, excited because I like shooting weddings, and I knew hers was going to be amazing. I was right!
Joy and Travis got married outside at Jardin Del Sol and the sun and warmth came out just for the day. They invited 100 of their closest friends and family to share in the day. They wanted to keep the event small and intimate and that’s exactly what they had.
Joy looked stunning in her beautiful gown from La Belle Reve in Bellevue and all her girls decked out in green to go with their “herb” theme. Joy’s dad, Forgiven, had run a produce stand in the Pike Place Market for years, and gardening and the earth are very close to her family, so the herb theme was perfect. Rejoice, Joy’s mom, put together all the bouquets and friends and family helped set all the herbs in the center pieces and napkins. You walked anywhere near the bouquets and you smelled mint. Travis’ dad is a wine maker and brought bottles and bottles of vintage wine for the occasion. The most special bottle from 1978, the year before Travis was born. Travis’ step dad officiated spicing their ceremony with funny stories from their childhood. Showing that, even now, Joy and Travis love to laugh. It was an event brought together by family and it was amazing!
